Understanding and Reading a Blog — John C. Dvorak

Dvorak explains the basics of blogs for readers who may be unfamiliar with how they work. This is required reading for everyone.

The Silly Song Meme Thing

Sunday, December 19th, 2004

For the hell of it, I’m continuing this meme that I picked up from Rev Jim.

Here’s how it works. You put your media player on shuffle (iTunes in my case) and listen to 25 songs, picking your favorite lyric from each. Then everyone gets to guess what song the lyrics come from. I’ll cross out songs as they are guessed.

Oh yeah, no googling. :-) Wait, who am I kidding, you’ll probably have to google some of them.

  1. This world in all it’s clarity
    Is glorious, is fake
  2. There’s always a siren
    Singing you to shipwreck
  3. fold me up
    take me out
    I’m portable
    – Aaron
  4. You can try to get me back baby, with all your tricks and charms
But when all your games are over, you’ll be left with empty arms
  5. It came back to haunt me, and I realised
That you were an island and I passed you by
  6. And I need a song to sing you
    That I’ve yet to find
    – Joe
  7. I’m at this bolted door, but I’m
    Coming through without permission
  8. saying hello on the down-low
  9. The hour hand has spun
    Before the night is done
  10. Here’s a thought for every man
Who tries to understand what is in his hands
  11. Satan is a lier and conjurer too
if you don’t watch out, he’ll conjure you
  12. me i’m on the longest road
    where everything’s overload
  13. I get down for my grandfather who took my momma
Made her sit that seat where white folks aint wanna us to eat
At the tender age of 6 she was arrested for the sit in
With that in my blood i was born to be different
  14. if you’re feeling down and out
    tell him what you want
  15. It’s getting cold in California
I guess I’ll be leaving soon
  16. She tells me when you’re whispering, she lies beside me naked – Aaron
  17. I wanna be the knife that cuts into my hand
  18. It was just a man with something to prove
    Slightly bored and severely confused
    – Aaron
  19. You’ll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
    And on your own
  20. I’m finding my way back to sanity again – Melissa (close enough)
  21. I have seen things that you will never see.
  22. Whiskey’s too rough, champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear
This little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact…
  23. I was a holy man but now
With all my trials behind me
I am weak in my conviction
  24. But I don’t want to leave and see the teardrops in your eyes
  25. They say they never really miss you until you’re dead or you’re gone
so, on that note, I’m leaving after this song

Despite best efforts…

Church Signs

Friday, December 17th, 2004

In response to Micah’s stupid church sign of the week, I’d like to point out one from a church I used to go to.

It appears that this sign has also be taken to be used at Church Sign Generator.

Forbes.com: Get Ready To Call ITunes

Friday, December 17th, 2004

Apple and Motorolla have announced a deal to make a cell phone that will integrate with iTunes. I assume it will also sync with my Powerbook (which my SE T610 does now) and working with Salling Clicker.

I’ll be at the front of the line for one of these.

I was also thinking today, I’d be at the front of the line to buy an Apple tablet PC.
