A Near-Death Experience
So, as many of you already know, I had a near-death experience on Saturday (well, maybe more like nearly-badly hurt experience, but the more dramatic opening line will catch your attention).
I was working out at Jackie Wilks’ house with VAC. We were clearing some land in preparation for a new ministry the Wilks are starting (horse-riding therapy for disabled children).
Anyway, I was using a chainsaw to cut some small trees down to be hauled out by the others. As I cut one down, I realized it was going to fall on top of me. Now, it wasn’t large enough to hurt badly, but it was large enough that I wanted to stop it from falling on me. So, I let go of the chainsaw with one hand in order to knock the tree to the side. As I did so, I chainsaw pivoted in my other hand and hit my leg. I had let go of the throttle, but the chain was still spinning down.
It took me a second to realize what was going on, but when I looked down I saw this:

Now, I didn’t panic, because I didn’t realize what had happened. All I knew was that my jeans had been cut. For some reason it didn’t dawn on me that my leg should be cut.
Next, I put the chainsaw down and reached into my pocket. I pulled my cellphone out, only to realize that the battery and battery cover were off. Here’s a picture of the battery cover:

My Sony Ericsson T610 phone saved me from serious injury. Maybe they’ll give me a new battery cover.
